Situated under a series of Grade II listed cast iron bridges the original entrance to Salford Central Station was a dark and uninviting. It emanated many of the most undesirable aspects of neglected inner city infrastructure. The new Salford Central Station was designed to be as the polar opposite to this. It was conceived as a highly visible and welcoming box of light. It was design to help to make people feel safe and to change perceptions of the station and its immediate context.
